Do you have a winter wellness protection plan?

Winter is often perceived as the time of year that brings many comforts and festivities. However, it is also known for its less pleasant tidings such as illness, accidents, and seasonal blues. You can avoid those problems and start your new year on the healthiest note possible if you oblige by one simple winter wellness tip.

Keep Your Guard Up

It is true that cold temperatures constrict blood vessels and reduce blood flow which can, in turn, weaken the immune system. But the weather is not entirely to blame. One of the main reasons why more people get sick during the winter is because they spend more time indoors and in close contact with others. Many types of common winter illnesses, such as the cold and flu, are viruses. Viruses are often spread from person to person through contact or droplets exuded from coughing and/or sneezing.

We come into contact with these environmental and seasonal threats on a daily basis. But it isn’t until a virus has infected our immune system that we fully avert our attention to what our body needs. DoTERRA’s OnGuard® is the perfect supplement to combat illness and give your immune system the boost it needs.

OnGuard® is Your New Best Friend

  • Keep in your car to sanitize hands after touching door handles, gym equipment, and shopping carts.
  • Put a bottle in your purse for hand washing when soap and water are unavailable.

DoTERRA OnGuard® Foaming Hand Wash A gentle and healthy alternative to harsh soaps that may dry and irritate sensitive skin.

Hawaiian Sandalwood

Did you know that doTERRA funds 9600 acres of natural forest to distill Sandalwood? It is the largest reforest station in Hawaii co-led by people on the ground. And no wonder! Hawaii’s native Sandalwood trees have long been prized for their beautiful aroma and unique properties, especially pertained to mental wellness. This oil has thousands of documented studies under its belt and thus is highly valued among many users.

WHAT IS HAWAIIAN SANDALWOOD?

Hawaiian Sandalwood, also known as iliahi in Hawaii, is a hemiparasitic plant which means it needs a host for some of its nutrition. It can produce its own carbon through photosynthesis, but the tree must connect to the roots of other plants to receive water and other essential nutrients from the soil. Most often the Sandalwood trees will connect with those in the surrounding area like the native (and second most common) Koa tree.

Sandalwood trees have to mature 30 years before any oil can be sustained from them. The highest concentration of oil is found in the heartwood; the ratio of heartwood to sapwood increases as the trees age. Older trees equal more oil.

But this fact is most interesting…

Sandalwood is actually distilled from the wood chips.

Steam is passed through the chipped wood which separates the essential oil from the wood. That leaves an oil and water mixture. The oil rises to the top of the mixture, separating from the water, and is then collected. However, Sandalwood takes the longest to distill. It is available all year long unlike Lavender which is only available four weeks out of the entire year. But it takes 5-7 days to distill Hawaiian Sandalwood and only 75 minutes start-to-finish to distill Lavender.

Top Uses:
  • Healthy Skin Hawaiian Sandalwood is well-known for its use in skin care products and routines. Add a little Hawaiian Sandalwood to your facial cleansers or apply directly to
reduce the appearance of occasional skin imperfections.
  • Meditation, Prayer, And Spiritual Worship This oil has been used since ancient times for its powerful ability to calm the mind, still the heart, and prepare the spirit to commune with God. Apply one 1 behind your neck before studying, meditating, or praying.
  • Quieting Flashbacks and Soothing Acute Stress Diffuse 3-4 drops of Hawaiian Sandalwood in your diffuser to uplift your mood and decrease tension.
  • Hair Treatment Give your hair a vibrant glow. Apply 1-2 drops of Hawaiian Sandalwood to your wet hair once you get out of the shower. It will help restore moisture and give it a
    healthy shine.

HINOKI ESSENTIAL OIL

Hinoki oil, or Japanese cypress, is derived from the wood of the Japanese hinoki tree—wood often used as a building material for temples, shrines, and palaces in Japan as well as in the plant art of bonsai. This special essential oil is known for its unique balsamic scent akin to bitter wood. It is a common household candle because of its soothing qualities and fresh aroma. However, Hinoki oil has a myriad of benefits far outranging the use of Hinoki candles and wood. Let’s take a look!

Hinoki Essential Oil on Autonomic Nervous System Activity and Mood States

Hinoki essential oil is comprised of two primary chemical constituents known as a-pinene and delta-cadinene. Alpha-pinene is an aromatic compound found in many species of coniferous trees, notably the pine, and is one of the most naturally occurring terpenes in the world. It contains cerebral properties that may increase alertness and focus while also mitigating the adverse effects of stress. Hence, it lends Hinoki its relaxing characteristics.

Cadinene is the chemical name of a number of isomeric hydrocarbons that occur in a wide variety of essential oil producing plants. Delta-cadinene in particular can be found in essential oils like Ylang Ylang and Citronella. It is known to be soothing to the nervous system and thus adds to Hinoki’s sedative properties.

A study conducted by Natural Product Communications found that “…after inhaling Hinoki essential oil, systolic blood pressure, heart rate and [parasympathetic activity] decreased, whereas [sympathetic nervous activity] increased…” Furthermore, Hinoki essential oil “…stimulated a pleasant mood status.” NPC concluded that Hinoki essential oil could be a suitable agent for the development of regulators of sympathetic nervous system dysfunctions.

The Physiological Effects of Simply Touching Hinoki

Hinoki wood is so valued in Japan that, by law, the essential oil can only be extracted from trees that have fallen. Dwarf Hinoki trees are often used by bonsai artists. DoTERRA utilizes byproducts from the timber industry, overseen by Japan’s forest management programs, ensuring that no part of these prized trees go to waste.

And thank the Lord for that!

Studies show that simply walking on Hinoki makes people feel relaxed. One study recorded by the International Journal of Environmental Resource and Public Health found that upon contact with the soles of the feet, Hinoki wood decreased prefrontal cortex activity, increased parasympathetic nervous activity, and decreased sympathetic nervous activity. Participants also noted that they felt “comfortable”, “relaxed”, “natural”, “warm”, “uneven”, “dry”, and “soft” after touching Hinoki. The study concluded that “touching Hinoki with the soles of the feet induces physiological relaxation.”

How to Use Hinoki Essential Oil

  • Diffuse or apply topically onto feet, back, and/or chest before bedtime
  • Add two to three drops in your bathwater
  • Add four to five drops to your hardwood floor cleaner
  • Rub two drops into your palms and inhale deeply
  • Add to your skincare routine

Hinoki is January’s product of the month! Place a 125 PV loyalty order by January 15th and you’ll receive a 5 mL bottle of Hinoki for FREE! Don’t miss this special offer! We’d love to hear your testimonies.

Clove: A DROP A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

Did you know that Clove has the highest antioxidant capacity than any other oil? In fact, with its ORAC score of 1,078,700, it has a higher antioxidant rate than any fruit or vegetable! You can find this powerful essential oil in dental preparations, gum and candy, and even in DoTERRA’s Lifelong Vitality Line as an important ingredient of xEO Mega®.

WHAT IS CLOVE AND HOW DO I USE IT?

Clove essential oil is steam distilled from the dried flower buds of the plant. It ranges from colorless to light yellow and has a strong, spicy aroma. The essential oil is most popular in dentistry because of its numbing effect—derived from the warm sensation—and its potent antioxidant properties that prevent infection. However, Clove can provide a myriad of other benefits as well.

CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH

Researchers investigated the effect of Clove essential oil on fatty liver and dyslipidemia. The study concluded that Clove essential oil had a significant improvement in fatty liver and dyslipidemia with consequent expected protection from cardiovascular diseases and other complications of fatty liver. Add Clove to your daily supplement or take a daily dose of xEO Mega® to help promote cardiovascular wellness.

HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants are compounds that reduce oxidative stress which can contribute to the development of chronic diseases. Clove contains a chemical compound called eugenol that is known to lend Clove its antioxidant capacity and antiseptic properties. A test-tube study performed in 2010 by the Molecular Dynamics Section of the National Institutes of Health found that eugenol stopped oxidative damage caused by free radicals five times more effectively than vitamin E. Add to your daily supplement regimen to reduce oxidative damage either by adding four drops of Clove to a veggie capsule or take xEO Mega® in DoTERRA’s LLV line.

KEEPS YOU HEALTHY

Clove has antimicrobial properties that help stop the growth of microorganisms like bacteria. Another test-tube study performed in 2012 by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, found that Clove can be effective at killing off three common types of bacteria. One of the three was E. Coli. Take Clove internally or indulge in DoTERRA’s OnGuard softgels (which contain Clove) to boost immune health and fight against nasty bacteria.

AND GUESS WHAT?

If you place a 125 PV Loyalty order by December 15th, you will receive a 15 mL of Clove for FREE! And while you’re at it, why don’t you purchase DoTERRA’s best-selling LLV line to get your daily dose of Clove and more? Don’t miss it! We’d love to hear your testimonies.

FRANKINCENSE: KING OF THE OILS

  1. Isaiah prophesied the coming of the Wise Men; “6 Vast caravans of camels will converge on you, the camels of Midian and Ephah. The people of Sheba will bring gold and frankincense and will come worshiping the LORD.” (Isaiah 60:6).
  2. The gifts to baby Jesus in Matthew 2:11; “11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.”
  3. It is the required incense on a grain offering: “15 The priest on duty will take from the grain offering a handful of the choice flour moistened with olive oil, together with all the frankincense. He will burn this representative portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.”

No wonder Frankincense is called King of the Oils! Not only is the oil considered to be a pleasing aroma to the Lord and a gift to the baby Jesus, but it was used to anoint the newborn sons of kings! Its renowned nickname seems ironic now, doesn’t it? However, Frankincense is more than an oil used for grain offerings and anointing. Let’s take a look.

FRANKINCENSE USES AND BENEFITS

IT’S AN ASTRINGENT – Frankincense is an astringent property that can strengthen and maintain the health of gums, hair roots, skin tone, muscles, intestines, and blood vessels. This property alone can protect from premature loss of teeth and hair. It can also reduce the appearance of wrinkles and combat the loss of firmness in limbs associated with age. Apply to desired areas or take four drops via veggie capsule to optimize the benefits of this oil.

PROMOTES APOPTOSIS – According to a study conducted in 2016, Frankincense can promote healthy cell death—also known as apoptosis. This may reduce the risks of malignant growths or other unexpected mutations. Apply to affected areas and take four drops via veggie capsule to utilize Frankincense’s pro-apoptotic effects against cells.

KEEPS UTERUS HEALTHY – Another study conducted by Jane Buckle, ex-faculty at the University of Minnesota and author of Clinical Aromatherapy in Nursing, concluded that Frankincense is good for uterine health. Frankincense can regulate the production of the estrogen hormone, proper menstrual cycles, and other gynecologic conditions. Apply to affected areas and take four drops via veggie capsule to keep your reproductive and endocrine system healthy

DoTERRA’s Gift of Kings promotion is back! Place a 200 PV Loyalty order this December and receive a 15 mL of Frankincense for FREE! Don’t miss it! We’d love to hear your testimonies.
